What You Need to Know to Host a Girls Event

Have you ever considered hosting an event for others in your community?  Today, over at More to Be, I'm talking firsthand about my experiences planning our church's first ever Girls Night Out.  If you feel led to host an event similar to this one, check out this post!

Recently I shared with More to Be readers about a dream I had of hosting a reDefining Beauty event for teen girls. This event was something that God laid on my heart over a year ago as something my Acteens group could do for girls in our  community.

For some time I had wrestled with the idea. Could we pull it off?

What if no one showed up?

What if no one had fun or learned about the Lord?

For months I kept it to myself and tried to come up with excuses and reasons why we couldn’t do it. Until my Acteens girls approached me about it. They were so excited about this idea and hearing them talk about it showed me that it was something God wanted us to do.

He had spoken to me and now He was speaking to them. It was time to plan it.

When You're Feeling Stuck

I feel like there’s a certain emotion that comes up around this time of year, which we don’t talk about very much.  I don’t think there’s a card at Hallmark for it, although Hallmark does seems to have a card for everything!

So today, recent graduate or not, I’m thinking of you. You. My precious friend who feels…

stuck.

You aren’t sure what you want to do with the rest of your life. You aren’t sure what your plans will be three months down the line because you’re still trying to figure out today. You’re uncertain of many things.

No one really talks about those of us who feel stuck sometimes. And at one point or another, we will probably all feel stuck in our lives.

I can’t think of a better time to seek God’s counsel and path for your life than at the time when you have no idea which path to follow.

Hooking-Up? Biblical Tips for Teens

Recently I came across an article that Seventeen Magazine published called “The Hookup Handbook.”  Different emotions flooded me as a read through the tips and tricks of a good hookup.  The hottest hookup spots, tips to drive him wild and how to know when to hookup with a person all made the “tips” list.  With each passing category of advice, my heart broke more.

This term hooking up, is used casually; but it can produce dire consequences.

As I read the article I thought, “This needs to be tackled.  This needs to be talked about, because it’s already being talked about…but in all the wrong ways.”

So let’s talk about it…let’s talk about hooking up.

The Girl in the Mirror: A Teen's Guide to Acceptance

My heart broke for her as tears streamed down her face.  Her mascara had run down her cheeks and she could barely look at herself in the mirror.  I had no words to say to her, no way to make it better.  This girl was broken.  This girl didn’t have anything left to give of herself.  This girl wanted to know why this was all so hard.  This girl… was me.
